artist statement

Tips to write your artist statement:

- sit underneath the heat vent, the warmth will comfort you

- light a gingerbread candle, the aromas will comfort you

- have chocolate very near, the digestion will comfort you

- drink copious amounts of water, the cool will comfort you

- listen to some lovely tunes, the melodies will comfort you

- ensure to prop up pillows, the softness will comfort you

now that you are comforted, you may begin to write your statement.  the words will flow much easier now.

So today I am working on writing my official artist statement. I have been planning it for quite some time (since September...my old one is not even slightly valid anymore, I've gotten away with handing in many half-ass, quick statements thus far, but enough is enough!), I just simply have been terrified by actually writing the thing!  But since I need a finished copy for tomorrows class, I figured it would be good to formally write it today.  Well last night would have been even better to write it (since today I am now feeling guilty about not being in the studio)...but last night, instead I decided my time would be better spent making lovely crafts, which had nothing to do with school.  Oh, the horror of being cursed with the most scatter-brained mind! So today, in the beginning I could barely get my first two sentences written, however, now I have over-written so much... I do not know how to cut it down.  Funny how life works. I suppose on a good note, I have a lot of opportunity and time to edit and rewrite -  here is hoping for eventually a clear an concise statement!  I suppose the pressure is mainly due to the fact that every prof that reads the thing will analyze, question and tear it apart... while my soul feels exposed and wounded. Yes, sometimes they just do not get what you are trying to say. But I suppose I can not fully blame them, because maybe I don't know either.  There is just too much to attempt to fit in... 700 words or less.
